Organizaciones buscan soluciones viables para la cadena de suministro de amoniaco en el transporte marítimo
08/06/2021Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM), LOTTE Fine Chemical, Lotte Global Logistics, POSCO, Korean Register (KR) y Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE), firmaron un memorando de entendimiento (MoU) para buscar soluciones viables en la cadena de suministro de amoniaco verde.
Según el MoU cada organización se enfocará en distintas áreas de la cadena de suministro de amoniaco para crear una solución integral para el abastecimiento, producción, almacenamiento y transporte del amoniaco. Se espera que Corea del Sur pueda establecerse como un centro para la tecnología de energía verde.
Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) se encargará en el desarrollo de un buque propulsado con amoniaco; Korean Register lo certificará; HMM y Lotte Global Logistics operarán y realizarán pruebas al buque; POSCO será responsable de la producción de amoniaco verde en el extranjero; mientras que LOTTE Fine Chemical, el cual actualmente opera la instalación de amoniaco más grande del país, transportará el combustible y realizará las operaciones de abastecimiento de combustible.

HMM pretende alcanzar la neutralidad de carbono para el 2050 para toda su flota. HMM menciona que este programa es parte de sus esfuerzos hacia la descarbonización del transporte marítimo y que la compañía encabezará un esfuerzo para promover el uso de combustibles alternativos. «Simplemente no podemos decidir y seleccionar un solo combustible neutro en carbono en este momento, considerando la viabilidad comercial, la disponibilidad y la escalabilidad».
